Student assistantships are available to current undergraduate and graduate majors in the sciences to work with faculty mentors on bioinformatics research and education projects. To be eligible, a student must have a GPA of 3.0 or above. Availability and amount of support may vary from semester to semester. Doctoral and postdoctoral positions may also be available for several research projects with Dr. Leung in the area of prediction algorithms and computational biology.

To apply, please submit via email a letter of intent, a resume with the names of two references (preferably at least one from UTEP), along with a transcript showing all undergraduate and graduate courses with official grades to Dr. Leung. She is interested in supporting research projects for  undergraduates, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows in the following areas:

• Undergraduate Participation in Bioinformatics Training (UPBiT)

• Genomics and sequence analysis (MS in Bioinformatics)

• Applied probability and biostatistics (MS in Mathematics or Statistics and Data Science)

• Probability and computational biology (PhD in Computational Science or Data Science)

• Prediction algorithms (postdoctoral in science and engineering; internship)
