To log onto Helix using a computer on campus: First, click on the Lonestar icon on the desktop (This icon is not on every desktop in the lab, so find a computer with this icon on the desktop or follow the directions for logging onto Helix using a remote site.). A lonestar screen will appear prompting you to login. Click Connect, located on the toolbar. Choose Disconnect from the drop down menu. Click on Connect again. Choose Remote System from the drop down menu. A dialog box will appear. Type helix for the Host Name. Click Connect. You will now enter your login name: The first letter of your first name and the first seven letters of your last name. When prompted, enter in your helix password: Initially this will be your social security number, but you will need to change this immediately. Change your password by executing the passwd command. You are now logged onto Helix. To log off from Helix: Type logout. Your connection to the host will be terminated. Click OK. Close the window. |
