Scholarships

The Office of Scholarships receives and processes all scholarship applications.

In the academic year 2009-2010, 35 math majors received more than $128,000 in scholarships.


The following scholarships are available to math majors in particular, although there are many more scholarships available to all majors:

C. H. Gladman Scholarship. Established in 1986 by alumni, faculty and friends in honor of the late Professor Emeritus Charles Herman Gladman who was a member of the Mathematics Department faculty from 1948 until his retirement in 1986. He served as the first chairman of the department from 1965 to 1968. The scholarship is open to full-time undergraduate students (who complete 24 credit hours combined in the fall and spring semesters) with at least a 3.0 GPA.

Lawrence "Larry" and Katsuko "Kitty" Huntley Endowed Scholarship. Established in memory of Mr. Huntley, long-time faculty in the department. The scholarship is open to to full-time undergraduate students (who complete 24 credit hours combined in the fall and spring semesters), who are US citizens or permanent residents and hold at least a 3.0 GPA.

Dr. Gavin G. Gregory Endowed Scholarship. Established in memory of respected Statistics professor and prolific author Dr. Gavin Gregory. The scholarship is open to to full-time Statistics graduate students (who complete 18 credit hours combined in the fall and spring semesters), who are US citizens or permanent residents and hold at least a 3.0 GPA.

The Michael J. Shea Memorial Scholarship. Established in 1975 by the family and friends of Lieutenant Michael J. Shea, USMC. a 1972 graduate of the University, who lost his life in the final evacuation of Americans and refugees from South Vietnam. The scholarship is open to full-time undergraduate students (who complete 24 credit hours combined in the fall and spring semesters) with at least a 3.0 GPA.

Patrick David Kirkland Endowed Memorial Scholarship. Established in 2002 by Michael Kirkland in memory of his brother, Patrick David Kirkland, a 1973 graduate of UTEP, passed away in 2001. The scholarship is open to junior or senior full-time students (who complete 24 credit hours combined in the fall and spring semesters) with at least a 3.0 GPA.
